Is Back to Base Monitoring Right for You?
Back to base monitoring is exactly how it sounds. When an alarm is triggered on your property, a professional security team “back at the base” will be alerted immediately and can determine the level of threat without having to interrupt you, unless it’s deemed necessary. Using back to base monitoring makes having a personal security team accessible for most homes and businesses and gives you the freedom to go about your day without having to check security alerts that may be triggered by a falling leaf or stray cat – because, who has the time for that? And while it might be fun to scroll through your security footage to figure out how your Amazon box somehow ended up behind a bush (did the driver really just toss it from his car window?) you’ll have the option of leaving it to the professionals.
While some ‘smart devices’ work great if you are easily accessible, it’s not ideal for you to be monitoring activity while you’re trying to work or away on a holiday hoping to unplug and recharge. Furthermore, if you’ve travelled far away from your home or office and can’t rush back when an alarm goes off, having someone else understand what has triggered sensors and respond accordingly will give you great peace of mind. Insurance companies also recognize the added value of having back to base monitoring and will often give you a discount on your premiums when you incorporate it into your security system.

How It Works
So how exactly does back to base monitoring work?
Back to base monitoring is a professional security service that monitors commercial, retail or home alarm systems 24/7. If an alarm system is triggered, the monitoring centre is able to respond according to the protocols in place. The professionally trained staff can determine the type of threat and therefore the level of response required.
What is the difference between back to base monitoring and self-monitoring?
Back to base monitoring is a professional service offered by a security company. Self-monitoring uses your existing alarm service to send notifications to your mobile phone for you to respond to directly.
What is shared monitoring?
It is also possible to have a shared monitoring service that allows you to get backup from our control room when you can’t respond. It uses a combination of back to base monitoring and self-monitoring.
What steps are taken when an incident happens?
Our professional operators quickly perform a risk assessment by first determining who or what has triggered the alarm and what the potential threat is. According to the agreed instructions, we will either contact our specialist security patrols, the police and/or you. For more info see our FAQ’s
Can my existing alarm system work with back to base monitoring?
In most cases we can work with your existing alarm system. We also provide a free connection service and provide a free basic assessment of your existing alarm system in order to make recommendations on any necessary improvements.
Should I use my back to base system over the NBN network?
An effective monitoring system requires a stable connection. Unfortunately, NBN is not a suitable network for the purposes of alarm monitoring. We use a secure independent system with a fallback system that does not rely on phone lines. This ensures the system is not affected by a single point of failure. For more info see our FAQ’s

“I received a call from your centre and the operators were first class. I don't understand how they
can be so cheerful at such an early hour in the morning – an example of their professionalism and
I checked the log and realised they’d called me within a minute of the alarm activation. I don’t believe we’ve ever received such a prompt response in the past 20 years.”
